Five men were taken to hospital after taking an "unknown substance", police said.

Officers are investigating the incident in the Westhill area of Aberdeenshire in which the men aged in their 20s became unwell in the early hours of Monday.

They were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a precaution, Police Scotland confirmed.

Chief Inspector Richard Craig said: "We are making inquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened after five men took unwell having consumed an unknown substance.

"There is nothing to suggest there is a wider threat to the public."
