Former First Minister Alex Salmond has responded to a series of mean tweets about himself in a video to promote his new LBC radio show.

Mr Salmond, who revealed today that he will host a new radio show on LBC, read a series of tweets sent to him by members of the public in the video.

The tweets included 'if Alex Salmond was chocolate he would be dark and bitter'.

The idea for the video came from US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who asks celebrities to read out cruel messages they have been sent through Twitter for a segment on his show called Mean Tweets.

Mr Salmond confirmed this morning that he will host The Alex Salmond Phone-In on LBC.

Theshow is the latest in a series of political programmes for LBC, which became the first radio station where members of the public could question a senior member of government on a weekly basis when former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg had his Call Clegg show.

It currently hosts a monthly Ask Boris programme with Mayor of London Boris Johnson, as well as the fortnightly Phone Farage with Ukip leader Nigel Farage.
