A Glasgow group has been recognised for giving disabled tennis players the chance to hone their skills on the court.

Following the success of Helensburgh's Gordon Reid at the Australian Open, Glasgow Disability Tennis picked up its own trophy at the recent Tennis Scotland awards.

Lesley Whitehead and four players from the programme attended the ceremony at Newlands Tennis Club to receive the 2015 Tennis Scotland Disability Programme Award.

The charity group, which runs sessions right across the city and caters for multiple disabilities, was set up in 2013 and has thrived ever since - just as Reid (below) has taken the global wheelchair game by storm.

Glasgow Times:

Tennis Scotland chief executive David Marshall said: "Tennis has never received the type of profile that it currently enjoys and while Andy Murray and now Gordon Reid are now household names, many of our award recipients do so much for our game without receiving the recognition their efforts deserve.

"This is an opportunity to demonstrate that their efforts are really appreciated and congratulations to all of our winners.”

Another Glasgow prize winner was the Kelvingrove Park club, which picked up the Community Award.
