The Duke of Kent has paid a visit to the soldiers of Scotland's only cavalry regiment.

The Duke, who is Deputy Colonel in Chief of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, met the troops at their Leuchars station base in Fife.

The royal visitor was shown around the equipment and vehicles used by the unit.

He also opened the new corporals' mess before attending a lunch with military personnel and their families.

The Scots Dragoon Guards recently took over the role of the UK's lead light cavalry battlegroup and remains ready to deploy in the UK and overseas if needed.

Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Coombes, commanding officer of the unit, said: "It is very exciting to welcome our Deputy Colonel-in-Chief HRH The Duke of Kent to Leuchars for the first time.

"As a retired regimental officer he has a wonderfully intimate understanding of the regiment.

"It has been great to introduce His Royal Highness to the place in which the serving regiment is very happily settled and to show him what we have achieved since moving here."
