A GROUP of cyclists led a funeral procession in tribute to a 16-year-old boy who “lived, breathed, slept and dreamt downhill mountain biking”.

Keiran McKandie died after being hit by a car when riding amountain biking route near his Moray home.

About 500 mourners gathered yesterday at the town hall in Elgin for his funeral.

All seats were taken during the humanist ceremony and the hall was so full many mourners had to stand at the back of the hall.

Mourners were shown some of Kieran’s best moments on his beloved bike in a video made by friends.

The funeral cortege, under police escort, travelled to a site near Keiran’s family home in Miltonduff, Moray, where it was met by 25 riders on mountain bikes.

The cyclists led the cortege to the nearby Pluscarden churchyard, where he was buried.

Keiran was hit by a white Volkswagen Golf near Craigend, Moray, on March 20. Passers-by tried to save him but he died at the scene.

His parents Gordon and Sandra described him as a “beautiful son” in an emotional tribute to him.

It said: “Our darling beautiful son, Keiran Gordon McKandie, was the love of our lives and the reason for living.

“He was our only child, a devoted grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Always forever in our hearts and he will never leave us.

“Keiran lived, breathed, slept and dreamt downhill mountain biking – it was his world.

“Even while he was eating his breakfast, he would be earching for biking videos on the internet.

“He loved all his biking buddies and shredding the tracks, and he was at his happiest when he was biking.”
