A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle believed to be driven by her husband.

The Sun reported that the 46-year-old suffered crush injuries after being knocked down by her 47-year-old husband in Milnathort, Kinrossshire.

Five police cars and an ambulance attended the incident at around 1pm yesterday.

It is understood that police taped off the area and covered a vehicle at the scene in a tarpaulin.

A police statement said: "Police Scotland is making inquiries into the death of a 46-year-old woman following a collision with a vehicle outside an address in South Street, Milnathort, at about 1pm on Tuesday.

"Inquiries are at an early stage."

A police spokeswoman could not confirm reports that the woman was hit by a vehicle driven by her husband.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact officers on 101.
