ALDI and Home Bargains have been confirmed as tenants at a £30m retail and housing development in Cumbernauld. The development, by the same company that recently unveiled plans for a similar £40m project in East Kilbride, said it will create more than 200 jobs.

London and Scottish Investments has received planning permission for retail development on the site from North Lanarkshire Council. The site is in addition to 14 that it acquired from Tesco last year.

The developer plans to create a new neighbourhood centre, with a seven unit-shopping parade, a pub, a drive through restaurant or coffee shop and 600 car parking spaces.

Bryan Wilson, development director with London and Scottish Investments and its subsidiary L&S Broadwood said: “Our Cumbernauld development is on a slightly smaller scale but is further down the road than East Kilbride. We already have planning permission for retail developments and we are awaiting final consent for our proposed layout.”
