The mother of a teenager who died when her car plunged into a river while holidaying with friends says she was 'the perfect daughter.'

Amy Simpson, 18, is thought to have drowned when the car she was in with four female friends plunged off a remote single track road into the River Alvich at Dalvaich, near Taynuilt, Argyll and Bute.

The other teenagers managed to clamber out of the vehicle, escaping with only cuts and bruises.

In a police statement, Amy's mother Angela Simpson said: "My gorgeous girl Amy wasn't just the perfect daughter, she was my best friend, my soulmate and my rock and she made me so proud.

"One day I will make her as proud of me as I was of her. I am absolutely heartbroken and it's hard to find the words at this distressing time to express just how much I will miss her.

"Rest in peace Toots."

Tuesday's accident is being investgigated by the police and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
