Residents jumped from flats after fire broke out at Billy Connolly's old school in Glasgow.

Ten fire engines and five ambulances rushed to the former St Peter's Boys School in Partick, which has been converted into flats.

The blaze broke out on the third floor of the building in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Resident Rhona Simpson, 23, said while standing in her bathrobe: "I was asleep in my bed when someone banged on our door shouting 'fire, fire, fire.'

"We came outside and people were jumping from the building."

There are currently no reports of injuries. The main concern is the amount of smoke which entered the building.

Sgt Keith Conner said at the scene: "It's an old building where the vents could be damaged and smoke filled. That's our main concern now everyone has been evacuated".

A resident said "I was lying on my couch watching TV and I thought I could smell burning toast.

"I ignored it until the last moment and then someone was banging my door like hellfire!

"I'm glad I got out."
