RELATIVES of a 14-month-old baby who died at home in “suspicious circumstances” appealed to friends to pray for the youngster as it emerged she may have suffered brain damage.

Police have launched an investigation following the death of Inayah Ahmed in Glasgow on Sunday, April 17. It is thought she became ill within her home in Drumchapel’s Bernisdale Drive before receiving treatment at the intensive care unit at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow where she died three days later.

Police say they are treating the death as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing

It was only after a post-mortem examination that police began a formal inquiry into the baby’s death.

No arrests have been made and a report is due to be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

In the hours before she died, her family urged friends to pray for her survival.

On social media, one relative said: “I’m sure that you all know Inayah is in hospital... just as an update her brain has been seriously damaged and doctors are saying she will not make it.

“We as Muslims know that everything is in the hands of Allah. If anyone can bring her back its him.

“Please take a moment to remember Inayah in your duas [prayers] she’s in dire need of them.”

When contacted by the Herald, Inayah’s uncle - who declined to be identified - said he didn’t “see the point” of a police investigation.

Neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac where the family lived said they had heard the baby had been struggling to eat. She was being fed through a syringe they claimed.
