FORMER Newcastle and Tottenham midfielder David Ginola has suffered a heart attack while playing football in warm temperatures, according to reports. 

The former French international is said to “unconscious but stable” after apparently collapsing in Mandelieu on the south coast of France on Thursday afternoon.

It is claimed the 49-year-old was playing football in high temperatures when he became unwell and it is understood he has since been transferred to a cardiology unit in Monaco. 

Former Celtic striker John Hartson said was among those wish him a speedy recovery.

John Hartson Tweeted: "Reports saying David Ginola has suffered a heart attack.. If true hoping he is comfortable and not serious."

After a successful seven-year stint in the Premier League with such teams as Aston Villa and Everton, Ginola turned to television punditry with BT Sport. 

Ginola had shown no signs of ill health before the cardiac arrest.
