DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a man who was found unconscious in the street are believe up to seven people may hold the key to his death.
Fife police are seeking to trace a number of people as they carry out inquiries into the death of Darren Adie in Kirkcaldy just over a week ago.
The 42-year-old was found unconscious in Tweed Avenue, close to the junction with Lawson Street at around 6.45 pm on Saturday 28th May, and had suffered stab wounds.
He was taken to the Victoria Hospital where he later died.
Officers from the Major Investigation Team say that a number of people saw or interacted with Mr Aidie in the hours leading up to his death, and are keen to speak to them.
Among the potential witnesses are someone known as 'Kelly', to whom Mr Adie was shouting between 6 pm and 6.30 pm in the Overton Mains area, near Overton Road, Kirkcaldy.
A man in his 40's with a balding or shaved head and a heavy build, who was wearing a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms, is also thought to have spoken to Darren in passing around this time in Spey Avenue at the junction with Napier Street, Kirkcaldy around 6.45 pm.
Officers are also seeking others who may have walked past or encountered Mr Adie in Tweed Avenue, all around the same time.
They include a man and a woman who were pushing a buggy or possibly a double buggy in Tweed Avenue while walking towards Napier Street, a second man and a woman, with the man described as being in his late 20's or early 30's and 6 ft tall who walked with a limp, and a slim-built man wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
Detective Chief Inspector Raymond Brown said: “We are keen to speak to these individuals. We believe they may have seen Darren and may hold information that, although they may consider insignificant, could prove vital in identifying his killer.
"As such I would urge them to come forward and speak to the police as soon as possible.
“I’m asking them to please contact us on 101, or speak to an officer in the street.”
Mr Adie, who was originally from the Dysart area of the town, was popular locally and the spot where he was discovered was marked with a floral tribute.
Tributes from friends and relatives were paid on social media as news of his death spread, with Relative Aaron Martin wrote: “Just wouldn’t really sink in last night but hitting me like tonne of bricks today. R.I.P uncle darren go miss u millions big man love u always.”
Friend Shaun Aitchison wrote: “R.I.P Darren still canni believe it like I’ve known you all my life and you were always nice to me gonna be missed by many thoughts are with your family.”
Kerry Lindsay added: “Just found out a good old friend was stabbed to death over the weekend. Darren you’ll never be forgotten sweetie. Luvya… R.I.P Darren Aidie.”
