Mel Gibson is working on a follow-up to The Passion Of The Christ with Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace.
The new film will be centred around the resurrection of Jesus, Randall told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I always wanted to tell this story,” the Oscar nominated scriptwriter said. “The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more story to tell.”

The Passion Of The Christ was directed by American-born Mel, 60, and released in 2004.
The movie, which starred Jim Caviezel as Jesus, became a huge hit, earning $612 million at the worldwide box office to become the most successful independent film of all time.
Highly controversial for its brutal scenes, The Passion Of The Christ depicted the suffering of Jesus Christ in the twelve hours leading up to his crucifixion.

The film became a huge talking point and was even the inspiration for a typically pointed episode of animated series South Park.
Randall recently worked with Mel on the Second World War drama Hacksaw Ridge.
The film, due for release later this year, tells the story of army medic Desmond Doss. He was the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honour in the US.

In 1995, Mel directed, produced and starred in Braveheart, a film based on the life of William Wallace.
The Scottish nationalist was executed in 1305 for treason against King Edward I. The film received two Academy Awards – best director for Mel and the accolade of best picture.
