A 5-YEAR-OLD girl has died following a road crash in Paisley.

The accident, involving two cars, happened at around 4.50pm on Tuesday on Sergeant Law Road.

Niree Johnstone, of the Paisley area, was travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa that was in collision with a grey BMW 120 at the junction with Glennifer Road.

Niree was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but died of her injuries.

A three-year-old boy, who was also a passenger, was not injured.

The 20-year-old female driver was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.The 24-year-old male passenger was uninjured.

The 34-year-old man who was driving the BMW was uninjured.

The road was closed for six hours as road crash investigators conducted a full examination of the site. The police helicopter was also in attendance.

Sergeant Kenneth Malaney from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock said today: “This was a serious road crash which has resulted in the death of a young girl.

"Road policing officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances which led to this collision.

"The road was moderately busy at the time of the incident and it is likely that the collision was witnessed by a number of passing motorists.

"I would ask that anyone who witnessed the collision to please get in contact with any information you may have.”
