Fans of the global Pokemon Go craze are being offered a helping hand by a Scottish taxi firm.

Edinburgh company Central Taxis has devised a route through the city for gaming enthusiasts to boost their chances of capturing a large number of digital characters within a short space of time.

The augmented reality game sees players travelling around the real world, using their mobile phones to catch and train creatures known as Pokemon.

The firm's 18-year-old IT apprentice, Cameron Herkes, came up with the taxi tour concept for the company.

He said: "I was just sitting in the office and it occurred to me you could get things in this game done so much more quickly if someone was driving you around.

"Imagine a taxi driver was just taking you through all the hotspots in Edinburgh - Princes Street, George Street, Queen Street.

"The amount of stuff you'd be able to collect in a short time in game terms is just really useful."

Mr Herkes helped Central Taxis' chairman Tony Kenmuir to plan the route, which also takes in the likes of Hanover Street and Waterloo Place in the city's New Town.

"It's a great route," he said, adding that the trip should appeal to families and tourists.

"When you click on the Pokestops on the game, it'll tell you exactly what monument or what part of Edinburgh you're in. It's great for tourists, great for families or anyone who just likes the game."

The taxi firm claims the route will allow enthusiasts to capture at least 50 Pokemon stops and says the tour offers a safe way to hunt the creatures.

The tour, which takes roughly 20 minutes, is offered for a fixed price of £15 and can accommodate up to six gamers.
