An 18-year-old has been jailed for six years for causing the death of an Edinburgh nurse by driving dangerously.

Dylan Jenkin was driving a Ford Ka which struck and killed mother-of-one Jill Pirrie, 33, on Old Dalkeith Road on Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Ms Pirrie, from Edinburgh, had been walking home from work at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary when she was hit by the car.

The theatre nurse, who had a five-year-old son, was rushed back to the hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Jenkin was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for seven years, BBC Scotland reported.

He pleaded guilty last month.
