A man has died after being found injured behind flats in the New Town in Edinburgh

It was thought the man may have fallen from a window at the rear of four-storey flats at Fettes Row.

Eight police vehicles and around a dozen officers including forensic specialists were at the scene at around 10am.

The incident comes as the Edinburgh Fringe and International Festivals get fully under way with thousands of visitors in the Scottish capital.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said:  “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following the death of a 56-year-old man.

“The man was found injured behind buildings on Fettes Row.  Emergency services attended, however the man later succumbed to his injuries.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing, but the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious. 

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
