Visitors to a Glasgow park were taken back in time on Sunday as history enthusiasts recreated two trenches from the First World War.

Both allied and German soldiers were represented, allowing visitors the chance to see what life was like in the trenches.

The new trenches were unveiled as part of the new Digging In learning facility at Glasgow’s Pollok Park.

Digging In is a hub for learning about the human experience of the First World War, with people being able to take in hands-on learning activities to see how soldiers managed in the tough conditions.

Dr Olivia Lelong, director at Northlight Heritage, the charity behind Digging In, said: “Digging In is about trying to convey the enormous stresses that the First World War imposed on people – both on the fighting front and at home.”
The trenches will remain open until November, 2018.
