A vicar held a church service for dogs - inspired by a Vicar of Dibley episode about the blessing of animals.

Reverend Shuna Dicks invited parishioners to bring their pets to a special ceremony on Sunday.

Several dogs were taken to the church by children and families where they joined Rev Dicks' own beagle Ralph and cocker spaniel Yazz.

They all remained quiet during the ceremony, although one dog did decide to join in the singing of the final hymn of the ceremony.

Rev Dicks said the ceremony at the Church of Scotland parish church in Aberlour, Scotland was a success and there may be others in future.

She said: "We've had services on Sunday evenings with themes before, but never anything for specifically for pets.

"I thought it was a lovely idea and decided to go ahead with it.

"During the week, someone suggested that I should watch the episode of Vicar of Dibley where she blesses the farm animals.

"She has a church full of animals in the episode, it's really funny. We just had nine dogs in our church."

Rev Dicks was joined by Yazz at the pulpit as she blessed the other pets in a collective prayer.

She added: "Yazz was beside me the whole time and was exceptionally well behaved thankfully.

"Ralph was sitting under one of the pews and just slept throughout the whole ceremony, apparently."

She said: "Pets add something important to our lives and for some they are big parts of our families.

"Animals are all part of God's creation too so it's only right that they should be celebrated with everyone else.

"It's a bit of fun but it's an opportunity for us to give thanks for them and celebrate the difference they make to our lives.

"Animals are always welcome at Aberlour- fortunately we don't have any carpets."
