The man who murdered Clydebank teenager Paige Doherty is appealing against his sentence, according to reports.

Leathem, 32, was sentenced to a minimum of 27 years behind bars earlier this month for killing the schoolgirl on March 19 2016.

He stabbed the teenager, who was 15, 61 times during the attack inside his sandwich shop, Delicious Deli, in West Dunbartonshire

The attack took place around 10 minutes after 8.21am, when Paige had gone to the shop to buy a roll on her way to work.

It has been reported that the Court of Appeal has confirmed Leathem has lodged an appeal against his sentence.

CCTV footage shown in court last month revealed Leathem was open and serving customers an hour after the murder.

The court heard previously that post mortem examinations showed Paige had fought back.

The court was told Leathem had marks on his arms which "may have been due to scratches" from the schoolgirl trying to defend herself.

Blood was found in Leathem's car boot, and in the back office where he murdered the teenager, as well as on a jacket in his home, "despite extensive efforts to clean", the court previously heard.

Leathem had bought bin bags and antibacterial wipes from the neighbouring newsagent shop after the attack, and used them to try and cover up what he had done.

He dumped her body beside Great Western Road on Monday March 21 2016, having left her in his garden shed for two days.

The day after the murder, the court heard he went on a family day out.

His wife Katya is now understood to have returned to her home country of Poland with her and Leathem's baby daughter.
