A murder inquiry has been launched by police following the death of a man in Aberdeen.

Officers were called to a property in Arnage Place, in the Mastrick area, at about 5am on Wednesday over concerns for a 26-year-old man.

The Scottish Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a major investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death and work is also being carried out to confirm the man's identity.

Officers are understood to be following a positive line of inquiry.

Detective Inspector Gary Winter said: ''There's no doubt that this incident will cause concern within the community, however I would like to stress that we are treating this as an isolated and contained matter, and that at no point did there appear to be any threat to other members of the public.

"I would also like to thank the public for their patience while this incident is being dealt with."
