A QUADRUPLE amputee who has campaigned to encourage organ donation has been given an honorary doctorate by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

Corinne Hutton, 46, of Lochwinnoch, set up the Finding Your Feet charity after the loss of her feet and hands following a near-fatal case of pneumonia and septicaemia.

Herald readers will recall how she stripped off for a remarkable front page photograph in September in which internal organs were painted on to the outside of her body.

Ms Hutton, a mother of one, aimed to show how the human body would look if it was turned inside out as part of the charity’s campaign.

Ms Hutton has made a remarkable recovery and within four months of her amputations walked a mile through Glasgow on prosthetic legs to raise awareness of the charity.

The charity also provides support to those with limb loss through sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects.

Ms Hutton said: “I’m very flattered and to be honest, a little embarrassed, to have been honoured in this way.

“I realise that it is a huge compliment though and recognition of our work. I hope I set a good example of what is achievable.”

Professor Craig Mahoney, the principal and vice- chancellor of the UWS said he was delighted the campaigner accepted the award, adding: “She has shown great personal courage in adversity and is an inspiration to us all.”
