An accountant who quit his job with £10,000 of savings is now a supercar dealer turning over £12 million per year - at the age of 32.

David Rai was 25 when decided to leave his role in the city and enter the motor trade in 2009.

He spent £4,000 on a website to export cars from Britain to the Far East - capitalising on economic woes in the UK which allowed him to negotiate a decent price from dealers.

Clients in Bangkok, Thailand, would then pay him to buy a brand-new car in Britain and ship it to the other side of the world.

The business, Global Vehicle Export London, was a huge success and he exported more than 1,000 cars to the likes of Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

At one stage, struggling for space, he would park the vehicles in the car park where his small office was based.

David said: "My career aim was always to get into banking and while it was interesting I wanted a change and to do something different with my life.

"I used my £10,000 of savings and had a website built for exporting cars.

"I then paid someone in Thailand to go to dealers who would then buy from me.

"The first deal I did was on a Porsche Cayenne. I would take advantage of the recession, getting a discount from dealers in England before shipping them out to Thailand.

"My first office was in Vista Business Centre in Hounslow, which was very cheap and good for start-ups. I regularly used to spend nights sleeping there just so I didn't miss any opportunity to sell a car.

"Business was good and before long I was exporting to Hong Kong and Singapore. One month I exported 60 cars."

In 2012, with the UK economy now far stronger, the export market wasn't as lucrative so David decided to start selling luxury used cars to Brits.

GVE London is now one of the leading independent supercar dealers in the UK, based out of a 20,000 sq/ft state-of-the-art base in Uxbridge, Middlesex.

He said: "I realised it was time for a new direction and decided I wanted to deal on my own doorstep.

"I didn't have the funds to open up a dealership in the middle of London or on a busy road in town so I bought a commercial unit and converted into the best-looking showroom I could.

"I had a 14 car showroom and it had a really good reaction from customers but it was slow to begin.

"It started to pick up and we started selling ten cars a month and had to expand."

The company stocks around 30 high-end cars at his state-of-the-art dealership in Uxbridge, and even sold a McLaren P1, one of the world's most expensive modern motors.

Every car David stocks is advertised with professionally taken photographs and a video.

The entrepreneur, who is in line to turnover around £12 million this year, now employs a team of 15 and personally drives a Lamborghini Aventador SV and McLaren 675 LT.

It is a far cry from his university days when he and his friend spent part of their student loan on an old Vauxhall Calibra to sell on.

David has now expanded GVE London by opening up an on-site detailing centre. He also plans to add a second floor to the showroom to separate classic and modern cars.

He added: "We've sold the best part of 500 cars and our stock has increased to 30. The average value of a car we sell is now around £100,000.

"Our new 20,000 sq/ft premises have got a four-bay servicing centre where you can get your supercar serviced, and we've now opened up our own dedicated detailing centre. It's a one-stop shop.

"GVE Detailing is all about quality, not quantity. It sounds cliché but everything we've installed into the new detailing centre has been thoroughly researched with an emphasis on quality.

"No other dealer has a specialist centre within their showroom like this. We go the extra mile, and having our in-house team and tools on-site mean that on average we can undercut the competition.

"If you're spending £250,000 on a supercar, what is an extra couple of grand to make sure it looks good and is protected."
