Watch: How two ex-Rangers stars were included amongst the best players Celtic's Scott Brown has played with

The two former Rangers stars he picked in his #One2Eleven shown on Sky Sports' The Fantasy Football Club were both young players with him during his time at Hibs.

The first was former Rangers right back Steven Whittaker who he played alongside in the youth team with at Hibs.

Brown said: "Sadly, he went one way and I went the other when we both came to Glasgow.  I went to Celtic and he went to Rangers but we stayed great pals.

"One thing most people might not know, he was probably one of the best finishers at Hibs when we were both playing there."

The other former Ibrox star was midfielder Kevin Thomson, who Brown said was one of his best mates in football having come through the Hibs youth academy together.

"We shared a house when we were 17 so Thommo has to be in my team. His left foot is fantastic, he was always available on the turn and his passing was crisp."

One of the more challenging tasks was to pick a goalkeeper, and having discarded England international Fraser Forster and Polish international Artur Boruc he plumped for the Celtic's current first choice, Scotland international Craig Gordon.

"Craigie's got to be my number one, this  season especially his feet, his passing, his technique has just gone through the roof  and he has been very important in the way we are playing. He starts everything at the back. He's like an extra defender for us with a wand of a left foot."

He picked former Hoops star now Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and Celtic's Mikael Lustig as his two central defenders.

Of van Dijk, Brown said: "He has gone on to bigger and better things but I feel we played a part in making him the player he is today."

Brown was an admirer of Lustig on the pitch. Less so with his style off it.

"His gear's a bit mnnnnn....a bit Swedish, a bit short, a bit different," he said.

He picked Celtic's Kieran Tierney at left back saying he is "always pushing boundaries and that's what I like about him".

Brown discounted former Scotland star James McFadden to plump for Celtic's James Forrest at right midfield, saying that he's "a lot younger  and he's pushed on this season and is coming through".

He added: "He's been brilliant and really good for us, plus he's still at the club!"

He decided on former Celtic star turned Spurs maestro Victor Wanyama to join Thomson as his central midfield pairing describing him as a "top-quality player".

"Victor came in as a centre-half and nobody was really sure what his best position was.

"We all knew he would go on to huge things," said Brown of Wanyama,

He went for Shunsuke Nakamura at left midfield saying: "He was exceptional when I was first coming into the Celtic team."

Joining Robbie Keane as his front pairing is Scotland star Steven Fletcher, now with Sheffield Wednesday, who Brown played with in his early days with Hibs.

"His left foot was a wand, his right foot was absolutely useless, but he'll admit that more than anyone," said Brown who said it was a close contest between Fletcher and another former Celtic favourite Gary Hooper.

"I have a great bond with Fletch and we still speak to each other all the time now."

Brown described Robbie Keane as "fantastic" having played with him for just six months.

"Robbie came here in January under Tony Mowbray. We were going through a tough spell and Robbie scored so many goals for us....

In his short time here he was pretty much the model professional. He was so sharp over the first two or three yards and you don't appreciate that until you've seen it up close."
