The SECC has been forced to cancel a Russell Watson concert tonight after a fire broke out in the Armadillo venue.

The English tenor took to Twitter to tell his fans of the incident.

He wrote: “There has been a fire at the Glasgow SECC !!! We have been evacuated.... OMG smoke bellowing from the back of the venue.”

The SEC website has listed the gig as cancelled and confirmed it on Twitter as well.

Other Twitter users have taken to the site to describe smoke emerging from the back of the popular concert venue.

A reported four fire engines rushed to the venue to deal with the incident.

The singer has since posted a short statement onto his Facebook page confirming the building has been deemed "unsafe" but that everyone is okay and was evacuated safely.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has told The Herald that, at 5.58pm, the service was alerted to a building on fire in the city’s Exhibition Way.

He said: “A total of four fire appliances, including an aerial appliance, were mobilised to the scene.

“Firefighters wearing protective breathing apparatus tackled the flames externally with the aid of powerful hoses.

“The fire has been brought under control, however, crews remain at the scene to check for hotspots and to ensure the ventilation of the building.”

Police Scotland also added: “No one was injured and the fire has been extinguished.”
