Police searching for a missing German tourist have confirmed that personal items belonging to Torsten Kulke have been recovered on the Isle of Lewis.

Mr Kulke was reported missing from his home in Germany on Monday, July 31.

It has been established that the 48-year-old arrived on the Isle of Lewis on the afternoon of Friday, July 28 and was last seen arriving in the Aird Uig area at about 6pm that day.

A rucksack containing personal items belonging to Mr Kulke was recovered during cliff-top searches in the area near Aird Uig on Wednesday, August 2. His family has been informed.

Search activity has been ongoing in the area this week, including Police and partners Hebridean Mountain Rescue and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, both on the ground and providing air support with the search and rescue helicopter based in Stornoway..

When last seen Mr Kulke was wearing a white top, khaki trousers, heavy walking boots and carrying a rucksack.

He is described as being 6ft 3in in height and of medium build with light brown hair.

Inspector Jane Nicolson said: "I can confirm that personal items belonging to Torsten were recovered during searches in the area where he most recently seen.

"We are working with colleagues in Germany to keep his family informed of developments.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and I would again urge anyone with information or anyone who believes they may have seen Torsten to get in touch with us by calling 101, quoting reference NH 2952/17."
