A RARE complete set of six Scottish whiskies has fetched a staggering £377,000 at auction in Hong Kong, the equivalent of £63,000 per bottle or £3150 per dram.

The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection included six decanters made exclusively by renowned French crystal house Lalique.

They were issued in strictly limited numbers between 2006-2016, and contain very rare Macallan whisky aged 50, 55, 57, 60, 62, and 65 years old.

The rare set -- sold as a single lot -- was the highlight of Bonhams' whisky sale in Hong Kong.

It was bought by an anonymous collector in South East Asia.

Daniel Lam, Bonhams' whisky specialist in Hong Kong, said: "The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection are among the most sought after and highest performing whiskies at auction."

The whiskies were distilled and bottled by Macallan-Distillers Ltd of Craigellachie, Speyside, and given their own distinctive decanters by Lalique.

The 46% ABV 50-year-old was a limited edition of just 470 decanters. It is described by Macallan as having an aromatic palate of dark prunes and plain chocolate, and a long finish with sherry oak signature and a hint of peat smoke.

The Macallan 65-years-old is described as "one of the oldest and rarest ever released by the distillery", and a testament to the skill of its craftsmen.

Its decanter -- one of only 450 released -- was based on "a single peerless drop of The Macallan, symbolising the most precious spirit in the world".

Bonhams' auction featured 298 lots, fetching a total of over £1.35million.
