THE sold-out debut Fringe show of the former First Minister, Alex Salmond, is to set its sights on the US President, Donald Trump.

The show, Alex Salmond Unleashed, has been extended for an extra night for a Trump Special.

Mr Salmond, not without controversy, has performed 10 shows at the Assembly Rooms to more than 3,000 people.

Each show features a special mystery guest with Brexit Secretary, David Davis MP, Scots actors Brian Cox and Martin Compston and Hibernian manager, Neil Lennon, being featured.

The Trump Special will, its producers say, "include top Scottish comedy talent and will focus on the President of the United States character, time in office and what the future holds for one of the most controversial world figures in recent memory."

Mr Salmond said: "The demand for the show has been outstanding.

"It is great to have so many people involved in this festival of fun and my guests and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

"As well as the demand to see the show, there has also been demand to talk more about President Trump, especially in recent weeks as his calamitous executive falls one-by-one.

"We have had 11 guests unleashed on our audience so far and I am sure the crowd will enjoy my guest and I being unleashed on President Trump in our special show on Thursday night."

The show, at the Assembly Rooms, has not been without controversy.

Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister, was moved to defend charges of sexism against Salmond after he made a sexual joke involving Theresa May, Ms Sturgeon, Ruth Davidson and Melania Trump, the First Lady of the US.

She said: "The first thing I would say is that Alex Salmond is not sexist.

"I’m fairly well qualified to comment on this because I’ve worked with Alex Salmond very closely for almost 30 years now, so he’s not sexist.

"The second thing I would say though is that occasionally Alex is not always as funny as he thinks he is, and perhaps this is an example of a joke that perhaps belongs more in the Benny Hill era than it does in the modern era."
