A HISTORIC Scottish steamship is set to be berthed permanently at the GlasgowScience Centre.

The TS Queen Mary was saved from a salvage yard and is going through a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Now she will be based next to the Millennium Bridge and will be connected to the SECC and SSE Hydro complexes.

Once restored, the Friends of TS Queen Mary charity believe the 84-year-old vessel will see 150,000 visitors and students each year.

Around £1.3million has been raised to pay for the work, which means nearly £700,000 has still to be found.

The charity hope that by next Spring, they can reopen the Queen Mary as a heritage destination and an education and business centre.
