SCOTLAND’S largest animal charity has rehomed 4,811 pets so far this year, it has been revealed.

The Scottish SPCA has found new homes for animals ranging from dogs, cats and rabbits to fish, terrapins, ferrets and snakes.

The charity has nine rehoming centres around Scotland.

The busiest was in Lanarkshire, where more than 1000 pets have been found families since January 1.

The centre in Glasgow rehomed 900 animals, while Dundee found homes for 580, Aberdeen 560 and Edinburgh 460.

The charity, which relies on donations from the public, said many animals would be spending their first Christmas in its care, however.
