A MAN’S angry outburst at police who woke him up when they found him on board a yacht on Loch Lomond has earned him a fine.

William Ross admitted behaving aggressively towards police at Luss Pier on the night of December 10, 2016.

Fiscal depute Craig Wainwright told the court: “It was 11.15pm when police on uniformed patrol in Luss observed lights and music coming from the loch, which they thought was unusual for that time of year.

“They observed two sail boats on the loch. The accused’s boat was tied to the jetty. Police boarded the vessel, entered the cabin and observed the accused lying there asleep.

“They attempted to wake him and observed him to be highly intoxicated. The accused shouted ‘f*** off and leave’. He was warned about his conduct but continued to tell officers to ‘f*** off’.”

Ross, of Baillieston Road in Glasgow, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday to be sentenced after admitting a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.

Ross’s solicitor told the court his client, a self-employed labourer, was “embarrassed” at his behaviour.

Sheriff William Gallacher imposed a £260 fine, to be paid at £40 a week.

The 53-year-old appeared in the dock on Friday alongside James Roberts, of Kilmorie Drive in Rutherglen.

Roberts, 33, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to a separate charge of navigating, or attempting to navigate, a vessel on Loch Lomond on the same date while under the influence of drink or drugs.

But the court was told that a social work report on Roberts was not yet available; he was told to return to court on February 7.

Ross had originally been accused of a similar offence, but his not guilty plea was accepted by the Crown.
