A CHEF who has worked in two of the Scottish capital's top restaurants is to open a new bistro in the city with her partner.

Former Castle Terrace couple Roberta Hall and Shaun McCarron are opening their first restaurant this summer, on Albert Place, near the top of Leith Walk.

Set to launch mid-June, the Little Chartroom will be a neighbourhood-style bistro with chef Ms Hall in the kitchen and Mr McCarron managing front of house.

Ms Hall spent three years working at Michelin starred The Kitchin before assisting mentor Dominic Jack in the opening of Castle Terrace, where she worked for six years and where she went on to become head chef.

The Herald:

Before The Kitchin Ms Hall trained at a number of restaurants in Edinburgh before spending a year and a half working at The Burj al Arab in Dubai.

During her time at Castle Terrace, she met Mr McCarron, who joined as a commis waiter, working up into the role of restaurant manager.

He also spent time at Simon Rogan’s original pop-up restaurant Roganic.

The couple ran The Abbot’s Elm in Cambridgeshire together for a year before moving back home to Edinburgh, to open a restaurant of their own.

Serving French British style cuisine, the couple said the Little Chartroom’s food will be simple and seasonal.

They will be serving lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and brunch at the weekend.

Named the Little Chartroom after Ms Hall’s love of sailing, their designers, Studio Niro, commissioned pieces by Ms Hall's mother, Rosalind Hall, who creates bespoke artworks from old shipping charts.

An open kitchen is being designed to reduce the division between the kitchen and dining room with the chefs assisting Mr McCarron in the front of house service.
