ODSONNE Edouard, the French striker who scored two goals for Celtic in their record 5-0 league triumph over Rangers yesterday, admitted last night he would like to remain at Parkhead, writes Matthew Lindsay.

However, the 20-year-old forward, who is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the 2017/18 campaign, also revealed the final decision on his future may not be down to him.

Edouard netted twice in the first-half at Celtic Park yesterday as his side sewed up their seventh consecutive Scottish title in stylish fashion with their most comprehensive league win over their city rivals ever.

“I’m going to remember this all my life because it’s my first title,” he said. “I’m very happy for the team and for myself. To be able to win the title against Rangers in front of our fans, it was a pleasure for everyone.”

Edouard, who had come off the bench to score the winner in the 3-2 victory over Rangers at Ibrox back in March, started up front for Celtic instead of his countryman Moussa Dembele, who was out injured.

But he revealed Dembele had helped him make such an impact in the game and take his tally for the season to 11 goals in all competitions.

“Me and Moussa speak a lot,” he said. “Every match we usually talk to each other before the match, whoever is playing. Moussa had a message of encouragement for me before the game.

Edouard passed up the opportunity to replicate the hat-trick that Dembele scored against Rangers in the opening Glasgow derby game of last season, but was delighted just to help Celtic prevail.

“Every match is different,” he said. “What Moussa did last season was extraordinary. But this match is a different environment, it’s a different context. I just went out there and did what I know how to do and play my game. I’m happy to be on the scoresheet and in the end we’ve won the game – that’s what’s important.”

Edouard has been linked with a move to Vitoria de Guimaraes in Portugal, but Celtic have the first option on him and can make him their player if they table a club record £7 million bid.

“What’s most important is that we’ve won the title,” he said. “The season’s not over yet. We still have the Scottish Cup. Hopefully after that there will be time for discussing options.

“I really love this club. If the decision was up to me I’d like to stay. But I can only do so much.”
