GOVANHILL is set to benefit from new street litter bins.
The move is part of a roll out of new public bins across Glasgow and they will increase the capacity of bins in the area by 65 per cent.
It comes after complaints from local residents that the area is suffering from poor cleansing.
A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that Govanhill will receive replacement street litter bins across the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July.
“These replacement bins will increase street litter bin capacity in the area by 65 per cent.
"This increased capacity will improve the containment of waste and increase the cleanliness of the surrounding area.”
Local councillor Soryia Siddique said: "Residents have complained regarding the lack of adequate cleansing services and bins in Govanhill, which has been raised with Land and Environmental Services (LES).
"LES has now confirmed new bins with a larger capacity will replace existing bins in streets of Govanhill by mid July.
"These have been predicted to improve the street litter bin capacity and cleanliness of the neighbourhood."
