THE ERSKINE Bridge shut again this afternoon during peak transport times.

Police Scotland announced that they will close the major road at 4:30pm today, and they have said it is due to 'public safety'.

The second closure is a result of the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior, making its way back down the Clyde.

However, the closure has arrived earlier than expected, and the boat has already passed beneath the bridge.

The Erskine Bridge is now re-open after the breif passing, and some locals were there to spectate.

It is now the second day running the bridge has closed, with Traffic Scotland confirming the closure via their social media.

It comes amid several other major road closures in Glasgow, with the Clyde expressway and the M8 junction 19 shut for three weeks.

The bridge was also closed yesterday as the Greenpeace Rainbow Warrior attempted to make its way up the River Clyde.

The Rainbow Warrior was heading back down the River Clyde as shown on a marine traffic radar.

With a mast height of 55ft, the Rainbow Warrior needs a low tide to pass under the Erskine Bridge successfully, and the police had earlier confirmed that the closure time was subject to change.
