CRASHES have general as well as particular causes, and roads other than the A404 at Beamond End have more crashes.
There is a particular phenomenon of deaths of young people on a fast road that the county council needs to address. The council has a wealth of relevant statistics.
While safety is the responsibility of drivers, not only of the highways authority, a 50 mph limit would remind people that the A404 is not a motorway. There is conflicting traffic in the same carriageway and junctions.
