SINGERS and dancers from the Holmer Green Players are blasting away the February blues by putting on a cabaret-style evening named Big Band to Broadway.

New York, New York and Send in the Clowns are just some of the classic tunes featured in the show, which combines choreographed dance routines with song.

Peter Healy, producer for the show, says: "The first half is really songs that are more from the Big Band era, people of the ilk of Frank Sinatra. The second half is more Broadway, songs of the likes of The King and I."

He adds: "I remember all of the Big Band songs from my youth."

Unlike Peter, however, the 25-strong cast members are unlikely to remember these songs the first time around as their average age is just 22.

Peter says: "We have a young cast with the oldest members in their 30s although my wife is not in that category. She is also in the show as both a dancer and a singer."

Previous Holmer Green Players productions mainly include pantomimes , such as Aladdin and Peter Pan, so Peter believes the audience are in for a treat.

Big Band to Broadway is also raising money for charity with both of its Saturday night performances raising money for Scannappeal, the South Bucks based charity that raises money for all types of body scanners in the area's hospitals.

Big Band to Broadway is at Holmer Green Village Centre from February 10 to 19. Tickets by e-mail: peterhealy@orange.net.
