TWO brothers convicted of killing a man after a feud between two kebab shops turned violent have been jailed for a total of 15 years.

Azeem and Zeeshan Aslam were found guilty of fatally attacking Anthony Dryden in March this year.

The 42-year old was beaten to death after smashing a window at the Aslams' takeaway shop Ali's Kebabs in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.

The killing was over a dispute between the Aslams and the owners of the nearby Nico's restaurant, where Mr Dryden's aunt worked.

The men stood trial at the High Court in Glasgow for murder. A jury convicted them of the lesser charge of culpable homicide.

Late last year, Hamid Shah applied to set up Nico's takeaway in the same street as the Aslam family's Ali Kebab House.

The Aslam family objected to the council. Permission was eventually granted. Mr Shah and staff were then targets of intimidation.

In an apparent revenge attack on March 23 this year, Mr Dryden broke a window at Ali's Kebabs. The Aslam brothers raced out of their shop and chased Mr Dryden into a nearby garden.

Azeem Aslam repeatedly hit Mr Dryden, of Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, with a baseball bat while his brother hit the victim with a piece of wood. The pair then fled. Mr Dryden never recovered from brain injuries.

Yesterday, Judge Lord Stewart jailed Azeem Aslam, 26, for eight years and Zeeshan, 23, for seven years.
