A COMPANY has been fined £200,000 over the death of a man who died after plunging from a viaduct.

Leslie Watson, 46, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire, was killed after his "cherry picker" mobile platform overturned, throwing him against a parapet and 40ft to the ground.

An investigation at the Annick Water Viaduct in Stewarton, Ayrshire, showed concrete plinths made for the platforms had no edge protection to stop them toppling over.

Health and Safety Executive guidelines warned of such incidents and advised on good working practices, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard.

SW Global Resourcing Ltd, which was contracted by Network Rail at the time of the tragedy in April 2010, admitted failing to make risk assessments and provide a safe system of work.
