ONE of the men blamed by a murder accused for killing a 51-year-old woman in her own home told a jury:

"He is telling lies."

Christopher O'Reilly, 18, denied being anywhere near the house on Raeswood Drive, Crookston, on April 9 when Isabelle Sanders died and her partner 86-year-old Norman Busby was stabbed three times.

Tyre fitter Mr O'Reilly told the High Court in Glasgow: "I'm not a beast. Murdering an innocent old woman is a beast. I wasn't there when that old woman got murdered."

Mr O'Reilly was giving evidence at the trial of Paul McManus, 19, who denies murdering 51-year-old Miss Sanders and attempting to murder Mr Busby.

He has lodged a special defence of incrimination against Mr O'Reilly and Ross Arthurs. Both men deny any involvement in the incident.

Advocate depute Brian Erroch, prosecuting, asked Mr O'Reilly: "Paul McManus says you were involved in the murder of a lady," and he replied: "Paul McManus is telling lies."

Mr Erroch then again asked: "Were you involved?" and Mr O'Reilly said: "Absolutely not."

He told the court on the night of April 8 into the morning of April 9 he was staying with his girlfriend.

The trial before judge Lord Armstrong continues.
