DOZENS of tributes have been laid outside a house after a fire that claimed the lives of six children.

Duwayne Philpott, 13, became the latest victim when he died in the Birmingham Children's Hospital yesterday.

His sister Jade, 10, and brothers John, nine, Jack, seven, Jessie, six, and five-year-old Jayden all perished in the blaze at the house in Derby.

Last night Derbyshire Police said the fire "was not accidental and initial indications are it was deliberately set".

Post-mortems revealed five of the children died of smoke inhalation. A post-mortem has yet to be scheduled for Duwayne, police said.

The children were asleep upstairs when fire broke out at the semi-detached house in the early hours of Friday.

Their father, Mick Philpott – who is believed to have 17 children – made a "valiant" attempt to save them.

A 28-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, both from Derby, were arrested, but later released without charge.

Detectives want anyone with information to contact them.
