A drunken student went on the rampage in the National Police Convalescent Home after mistaking it for a hotel, a court has heard.

Andrew Roxburgh stormed in and brawled with residents - unaware it was the national centre for recovering police officers.

Roxburgh told a court he needed to find a toilet and wandered into the building thinking it was a hotel - only to be physically thrown out by the residents.

Perth Sheriff Court was told Roxburgh had no idea the three men who tackled him were police officers recuperating from injury. One of the officers told a trial that Roxburgh pulled out his keys and said he would "stab them in the eye" at the Castlebrae centre in Auchterarder.

PC Ian Smith said Roxburgh repeatedly kicked out at the injured officers as he was ejected and urinated in the grounds of the home before being arrested.

Roxburgh, 34, of Main Street, Bridge of Earn, denies assaulting the three police officers on 23 May this year.

He also denies behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and challenging people to fight. He admitted having a run-in with three men, but said he was confused by their behaviour as he had no idea why they were trying to throw him out.

The trial continues.
