Thieves carried a safe out of a Glasgow restaurant during an early morning raid before making off in a getaway car.

The two men broke into the the Bungo Bar and Kitchen in Glasgow's South Side at around 6.30am on Monday.

It is understood the robbery duo broke into the restaurant on Nithsdale Road, Strathbungo, using a crowbar via the back door.

They then headed to the office where the safe was situated.

They lifted the safe to their car which was parked in the back lane.

Police say the safe contained a four-figure sum of cash.

The restaurant made an appeal to catch the crooks responsible for the raid via their Facebook page.

A statement read: "Bad news from the Bungo- we got burgled at about 6.30am yesterday morning.

"Two men broke in the back door and got into the office where they managed to lift the whole safe and make away with it into a car in the back lane.

"If anyone saw anything can they please contact us or go directly to the police. There must have been quite a lot of noise as they had to use a crowbar to get in.

"Please share with other locals."

Police Scotland confirmed they are investigating the robbery.

A spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact Gorbals Police Office via 101."
