A man accused of staging an armed heist at Gleneagles Hotel hurled abuse at a sheriff and court staff as he was remanded in custody for trial.

Richard Fleming shouted "you're a bunch of f*****g numpties" before being led back to cells after Sheriff John Rafferty fully committed him for trial.

Mr Fleming, who is alleged to be part of a gang who carried out a £500,000 robbery at the luxury Perthshire resort, could be heard launching a volley of foul-mouthed abuse at the end of the ten minute hearing in private.

His solicitor had asked for the court to grant Mr Fleming, who is from Glasgow but living in London, bail but the motion was rejected by the sheriff.

Fleming appeared amid increased security at Perth Sheriff Court and was flanked by four police officers and two G4S prison escort staff throughout the hearing.

The 41-year-old was making his second appearance in private in connection with an armed robbery on June 27.

Mr Fleming faces seven charges including assault and robbery, assault, two charges of theft by housebreaking, a charge of being in a building with intent to commit theft and a charge under the Firearms Act. He was again remanded in custody.

A major police investigation into the incident is continuing. Detectives have released CCTV images of a second suspect, who they believe has links to the London area, at a train station and a branch of WH Smith.
