CALLS have been made for a new A&E service at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank.

Scottish Health Secretary Alex Neil said he was "very conscious" of the distances people north of the Clyde will face when the Western Infirmary closes and services are transferred to the new South Glasgow University Hospital, Govan, next year.

Mr Neil said A&E provision was being discussed in a review of services being carried out by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Mr Neil said: "I'm very, very conscious of the issues around this and the distances people have to travel north of the River Clyde.

"If there is a recommendation for a service re-configuration then this is something we would look at."

Meanwhile the Jubilee Hospital has released figures revealing it treated 26,975 patients last year.
