A DOCTOR being treated for Ebola in New York is talking to his family by phone from hospital, as a Texas nurse walked free from hospital after being given the all clear.

Craig Spencer, 33, who was infected after working with Ebola patients in West Africa, became the first confirmed sufferer of the disease in its largest city.

He had been in contact with three people, including a physician with the charity he worked for, Doctors Without Borders, in Guinea. He, along with Dr Spencer's fiancée have been quarantined and are said to be healthy. Shares on Wall Street recovered after initial fears over the case.

Meanwhile, Nina Pham, 26, walked out smiling from a Maryland hospital. She caught the disease while treating a Liberian man in Texas, who died.
