AN MSP whose daughter died with anorexia will speak at a conference on eating disorders this week.

The annual NHS Grampian conference in Aberdeen tomorrow and Friday has "care, concern and compassion" as its theme.

SNP MSP Dennis Robertson, who lost his daughter Caroline two years ago, will be joined at the event by Public Health Minister Michael Matheson.

Around 12% of girls have an eating disorder at some stage of their teens, but boys and men can suffer too. Eating disorders can develop at any age.

Mr Robertson has helped to raise awareness of anorexia since being elected to Holyrood. He is expected to say: "We know that early diagnosis is vital and we want to ensure that all Scots who have an eating disorder receive a thorough assessment and get the right care and treatment for every aspect of their illness."
