ROBIN Williams, Ewan McGregor and Steve Martin have all been there.

Now you can stay at Billy Connolly's Scottish mansion too – for £4000 a night.

The actor and comedian is offering one-night stays at the Aberdeenshire mansion for the first time for groups of up to 11 people. The price is £3950 which includes a three-course dinner and the run of the 12-bedroom house in Strathdon.

Connolly and his wife, the psychotherapist and former actor Pamela Stephenson, bought Candacraig in 1998 and since then, guests have included many A-list Hollywood stars.

Pictures released for the first time to promote the new venture show rooms decorated in an exuberant style. The dining room is draped in tartans of different kinds; the other rooms feature strident drapes, blingy chandeliers and musical instruments on the wall.

The house sits in 13 acres of garden that features a giant chess set and a gypsy caravan. Guests who stay there can take part in falconry, trout fishing and whisky-tasting. However, shooting will not be allowed.

The online brochure for the house, which was built in 1835 by Aberdeen architect John Smith who also worked on Balmoral Castle, makes much of its Hollywood connections. "After changing hands several times in the 1980s," it says, "the house was purchased by Gordon and Anita Roddick, founders of the Body Shop chain. They undertook a comprehensive programme of improvement before selling it to Billy Connolly and Pamela Stephenson in 1998. Candacraig has attracted much media attention as Hollywood celebrities became regular guests."

For their £3950, guests will get dinner and breakfast cooked by the resident chef Harry Fraser. Groups of up to 20 people can also hire the house for dinner for £950. There is also the option of having a gourmet barbecue in the grounds that costs £1500. Ten of the 12 bedrooms are available to guests.

Since buying the house in 1998, Connolly, who is starring in Disney's Scottish blockbuster Brave, has joined in the life of the local community, occasionally appearing at the local Highland games.

He has also frequently hosted some of his celebrity friends at Candacraig, including Steve Buscemi, Anna Friel and Judi Dench, who starred with him in the film Mrs Brown about Queen Victoria's relationship with her servant John Brown.
