THE creation of a visitor centre designed to transform one of Scotland's industrial heartlands has taken a step closer with the awarding of a £5 million construction contract.

SH Structures, based in North Yorkshire, has won the tender to create two 30-metre high, stainless steel-plated horses' heads for the Helix land transformation project in Falkirk.

Designed by Glasgow-based sculptor Andy Scott, the giant mythical water horse sculptures, known as The Kelpies, will sit at the eastern entrance to the Forth and Clyde Canal as part of the £41m environmental development.
