AN arts and education trust has made a bid to purchase the Old Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh and turn it into a major arts complex.

The £6.2 million bid by Out of the Blue also includes plans for housing on the site, with the organisation working with David Adamson Group and Malcolm Fraser Architects.

A meeting is being held by the Merchiston Community Council and Out of the Blue on Tuesday, May 5 at Boroughmuir High School to discuss the issue.

Rob Hoon, manager of Out of the Blue, said: "We have put in a bid which is seen as a community bid.

"The bid we have put in is subject to finance but it would become a joint project. We have put in a bid to purchase it at £6.2m.

"Out of the Blue's model is a social enterprise. We would look for finance which would be a mixture of funds from a variety of sources.

"There would be a social housing element but the main focus is it being a resource for people to use to make things happen in terms of projects, workshops, classes, performances and a cafe. It is a fantastic space."

The substantial school would also be used as a Edinburgh Festival Fringe space.

Out of the Blue own and manage the Drill Hall on Dalmeny Street in Leith as an arts centre.
